Tutoring is a flexible, rewarding and interesting job where I can make a positive difference. The student who receives tutoring assistance is not the only one who is learning. Tutoring other students in reading, writing, and study skills, as well as course concepts and theories, can help me cement my own knowledge in these areas. By explaining course theories to others, I will discover that I gain further understanding of concepts that can help to enrich own academic studies. Similarly, by helping students with their writing, studying, and organization, it can refine my own skills in these areas. Becoming a tutor can also provide me with valuable interpersonal, communication, and listening skills. As a tutor, I must be able to explain various concepts in a multitude of ways to accord with each student’s learning style. By recognizing and addressing the individualized ways in which students learn, I will develop strong interpersonal and listening abilities. Tutoring also allows to hone my skills in communication as I may have to explain complex theories in more straightforward language. I am quite new to become a tutor. I am currently working as an auditor in one of the big 4 accounting firm. However, I have some experience on tutoring after graduated from STPM for a few months. I have taught a small group of primary students which came from different chinese school around Johor Bahru. Besides giving extra tutiton on the subjects such as Maths, English and Malay, I also guided them on their homework that have been assigned by their school teacher. As a tutor, I help students prepare for exams, work together on class work they need guidance with and help them improve in a particular subject that they’re struggling in.
