Experience : | Having consistently scored top grades in school, I pursued my undergraduate at a renowned university in Australia on a full-scholarship offered by a Malaysian GLC. I graduated with an Economics degree in 2014; after which I served in the corporate world for 13 months. Upon realising that corporate is not my cup of tea, I have (for the past 2 years) been focusing on freelance tutoring in my hometown of Ipoh, specialising in the likes of English, Modern Maths, Add Maths and Chemistry for Forms 1 - 5 (PT3 & SPM formats). I have taught one-to-one at students' homes as well as large groups of students at tuition centres. I also briefly taught as a relief teacher at Erican Language Centre. I believe that I have found my passion in teaching, as nothing gives me more joy than hearing my students say how much I inspire them. In March 2017, I was even offered a spot in the Teach For Malaysia Fellowship as part of the 2018 cohort, to serve in a high-need government school for the next 2 years. Subsequently, I underwent an intensive 7-week training (30/10/2017- 15/12/2017) which included sessions on classroom management, lesson planning and delivery, lesson differentiation and scaffolding. The training also included a 3-week teaching stint at a school in Pasir Gudang, Johor. However, I turned down the offer a few days ago due to inconvenient school placement. Nevertheless, the training is surely an asset. I excel best at pushing weak students to hit average marks; I believe that every student is different and hence I vary my teaching methods to suit individual needs. Although exams are extremely important, I also believe in holistic development. As such, my lessons emphasise soft skills (eg. ability to speak confidently) and higher-order thinking skills (HOTS/KBAT) to expose my students to real world happenings. Due to my techniques, I have in the past managed to gradually get students who were failing to pass and eventually, to secure credits. |
